City of Bentonville breaks ground on Razorback Greenway improvement project
Thanks to a tunnel and an extended trail, people will be able to walk, run, or ride straight to the Walmart Home Office campus, completely separated from traffic.
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The City of Bentonville broke ground on a major trail project on July 25 that's been nearly a decade in the making.
The project, which starts near Bentonville High School, will replace a stretch of the Razorback Greenway that currently forces users onto P Street and across a busy highway.
The stretch of trail being revised is the last remaining on-road section of the Greenway in Bentonville.
A tunnel and extended trail will allow people to walk, run, or ride straight to the Walmart Home Office campus, completely separated from traffic.
The project is funded by an Arkansas Department of Transportation grant as well as the city's capital improvement fund.
Josh Stacey, the deputy director of Bentonville Parks and Recreation, said the new stretch of trail will be beautiful.
"Having to go on a road, having to cross a busy street, to now being able to say, side path the whole way, tunnel under, and then you're gonna open up into the Walmart campus, and it's an absolutely beautiful trail system," Stacey said. "It's going to take us up 10 notches once we get this done."
City leaders said the trail will improve not just safety, but also connectivity throughout Bentonville, helping more people travel without ever getting in a car.
