Bike-To-School Week Introduces some new Friends
I’m Benny! When you’re biking to school, always use your hand signals so drivers know what you’re doing. Make sure your helmet fits snugly before you roll out. Safety first makes the ride fun for everyone!
The Bentonville Moves Coalition is a team of six furry friends who ride together to make biking safe, fun, and exciting for everyone in Bentonville. Led by Benny the Squirrel, the crew includes Carrie the Possum, Crystal the Chipmunk, Hopper the Bunny, Sheldon the Armadillo, and Ricky the Raccoon. Each character has a special talent — from teaching safety signals, to planning group rides, to decorating bike paths, to showing off jumps safely, to checking gear, to lighting up the night.
Together, they’re the heroes of two wheels, showing kids and families how to bike to school safely, look out for each other, and enjoy the trails and streets of Bentonville. When you see the Bentonville Moves Coalition, you know biking can be bright, creative, adventurous, and safe all at once.
Catchphrase for the Team:
“Gear up, ride smart, and move together!”
I’m Carrie! When you ride in a group, stay in a line and keep space between bikes so no one bumps. Use your voice to call out stops or turns so everyone hears. Riding as a team keeps the whole group safe and happy!
I’m Crystal! Wearing bright clothes or decorating your bike makes you more visible and brings joy to your ride. You can even make your own handlebar streamers or stickers. Safety can be stylish!
I’m Ricky! If it’s still dark outside, make sure your bike has a front white light and a rear red light. Wear something reflective so cars can see you. Glow bright and ride safe!
I’m Sheldon! Before you leave, give your bike a quick check — tires, brakes, and chain. If something feels loose, tell an adult or your teacher. A safe bike is a happy bike!
